We will be discussed Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s history in this article. The holy festival of Sikhs is Guru Nanak Jayanti. Also known as Guru Parva. Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh Guru was born on this day. He was born on 15 April 1469 in Talwandi Namat place in Punjab and His followers address him by the names Guru Nanak, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Baba Nanak, and Nanakshah. Guru Nanak possessed the qualities of a philosopher, yogi, householder, religious reformer, social reformer, poet, patriot, and Vishwabandhu – all in his personality.
Nanak’s father’s name was Kalyanchand And the mother’s name was Trupta Devi. Nanak Dev Ji’s sister’s name was Nanaki. Nanak settled a town called Kartarpur, now in Pakistan. It was at this place that Guru Nanak Ji died in 1539.

From childhood, he started showing signs of sharp intelligence. He used to be indifferent to worldly subjects since childhood. They did not mind to read and write. The school missed school at the age of 7-6 years because the teacher gave up in front of his questions regarding Bhagwatprapati and he came to leave home with respect. Thereafter, he spent all his time in spiritual contemplation and Satsang. Many miraculous incidents happened during childhood, which the people of the village saw as a divine personality. His sister Nanki and the village ruler Rai Bular were the chiefs among those who revered him since childhood.

Gurunanak married to Sulakshini, daughter of Moolraj, a resident of Batala. Which led to two sons. One was named Srichand and the other was named Laxmidas.
Guru Nanak’s first ‘Udasi’ (Vichharan Yatra) lasted till 1515 AD in 1507 AD. Those who visited Haridwar, Ayodhya, Prayag, Kashi, Gaya, Patna, Assam, Jagannathpuri, Rameshwar, Somnath, Dwarka, Narmadat, Bikaner, Pushkar Tirtha, Delhi, Panipat, Kurukshetra, Multan, Lahore, etc.
Guru Nanak was of very sharp intellect since childhood. Because of which he used to ask his teacher such questions. To which the teachers did not even answer. Once a teacher asked Nanak to make ‘A’. He made a, but he asked what it meant. Regarding which the teacher could not tell and started wondering what the meaning of ‘A’ could be? After this, the teacher said that ‘A’ is just one letter.

One day, the father gave him 20 rupees and asked him to get a good deal from the market. Guru Nanak Dev Ji had many qualities of spirituality, wisdom, and thoughtfulness since childhood. He learned Hindi and Sanskrit from the age of 7. By the age of 16, he had become the most educated and knowledgeable in the state around him. Nanak Ji also knew about the scriptures of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. His sister’s name was Babe Nanaki. She was 5 years older than Nanak Dev Ji.
He married at the age of sixteen years to Mulakanya, the daughter of Moola, who lives in a place called Lakhaki under Gurdaspur district. At the age of 32, his first son Srichand was born. Four years later the second son Lakhmidas was born. After the birth of both boys, in 1507, Nanak left the burden of his family on his body and Mardana, Lahna, Bala, and Ramdas left for pilgrimage with these four companions.
He turned around and started teaching. By 1521, he completed three travel cycles, traveling to the main places of India, Afghanistan, Persia, and Arabia. These journeys are called “gloom” in Punjabi.
Nanak was an altruist. He considered idolatry meaningless. He was always opposition to stereotypes and rituals. According to them, the Interview of God is possible not by external means but by internal cultivation. Not only is there quietness in his philosophy, but he has also looked at the political, religious and social conditions of the time. In saint literature, Nanak is in the category of saints who have given nobility to women.
The essence of his sermon was that God is one and his worship is for both Hindu Muslims. Guru Nanak Sahib believed that God resides in every person. Therefore, we should not discriminate against each other on the basis of religion, caste, sex, state. He said that Seva-Arpan, Satsang and Kirtan are the basic concepts of Sikhism as the Almighty God. The teachings of Nanak Dev Sahib are present in Guru Granth Sahib.
In the last days of his life, his fame increased greatly and his thoughts also changed. Discontinued themselves, they started living with their families and started doing charity, Bhandara, etc. He established a city called Kartarpur, which is now in Pakistan and built a large Dharamshala in Kartarpur, Pakistan. At the same place, Ashwani Krishna died on 10, Samvat 1597 (22 September 1539 AD).
Nanak was also a good poet. His emotional and tender heart, combined with nature. His language was “Bahta Neer” which included Persian, Multani, Punjabi, Sindhi, Khadi Boli, Arabic, Sanskrit, and Brajbhasha.

Guru Nanak Ji established a liberal path. Which is today known as Sikhism worldwide. At the age of 38, while bathing in the Ven river nearby Sultanpur Lodhi, Guru Nanak Sahib heard the sermon of God that he should dedicate himself to the service of humanity. The first promise that came out of his mouth after that was neither a Hindu nor a Muslim. After that Nanak traveled to many religious places in the world. Which is also known as Char Udasi. Guru Nanak dissolved in Param Jyoti on 22 September 1539.
