Draupadi Murmu is married to Shyam Charan Murmu, who has passed away and also had two sons, who are no longer in this world. She has dedicated her life to the nation and lives her life with the support of her daughter Itishree Murmu. She did her schooling at a private school and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Ram Devi Mahila College, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Draupadi Murmu belongs to the tribal ethnic group Santhal and born on 20 June 1958 in Baidposi village of Mayurganj district of Odisha,His father’s name is Biranchi Narayan Tudu. He was married to Shyamacharan Murmu. Draupadi has lost her husband and two sons. They have a daughter named Itishree Murmu.
Before joining politics, Murmu started his career as a teacher. She also worked as Junior Assistant in the Department of Irrigation and Power from 1979 to 1983. After this, he also worked as Honorary Assistant Teacher from 1994 to 1997.
Draupadi has also been a minister in the coalition government of BJD and BJP and from 2002 to 2004 she held several posts in the state. Draupadi was the first Governor of Jharkhand who completed a five-year term after the formation of Jharkhand in 2000. Along with this, she also served as the governor of the state from 2015 to 2021. Draupadi Murmu became the ninth governor of Jharkhand on 18 May 2015.
Mrs Draupadi Murmu started her political journey with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the year 1997. She was elected the first councillor in the Nagar Panchayat of the Rairangpur district of Odisha. After this, she was elected MLA twice (2000, 2009) from the Mayurbhanj assembly seat. Along with this, Murmu has also been a minister in the coalition government of BJP and BJD in Odisha.
According to another media report, in the year 2016, Murmu had also announced to donate her eyes to the Run of Vision program organized by Kashyap Medical College, Ranchi.
According to media reports, the news of the mysterious death of Murmu’s second son came to light in the year 2009 when his 25-year-old son Laxman Murmu was found unconscious on his bed after which he was rushed to a private hospital. He was later taken to a hospital in the capital Bhubaneswar, where he was declared dead.
Draupadi Murmu, who was associated with social work throughout her life, was also given the Neelkanth Award for Outstanding Legislator by the Odisha Legislative Assembly in the year 2007.
